The beginning

“My aim is to help you rediscover joy and confidence as you overcome your voice and swallowing problems.”

Since graduating in 2000, Nikki Martin has practiced Speech Pathology at various teaching hospitals including Royal North Shore, Westmead and Concord Hospitals. During this time, she has worked and has significant expertise in Ear, Nose and Throat Surgery (ENT) and Voice/Head and Neck Surgery, earning valuable experience in acute adult care including dysphagia (swallowing), tracheostomy and communication (language and speech) assessment and patient treatment across various units, including ICU, Respiratory, Cardiology, Geriatrics and Burns.

2003-2004

Nikki was responsible for the birth of the Voice Clinic at Concord Hospital in 2003. In 2004, she became one of only a few Speech Pathologists in Australia to receive accreditation to conduct nasendoscopy independently – a procedure where a flexible telescope is passed through the nasal space to the back of the throat to see how the larynx (voice box) works in terms of voice and swallow function.

2005-2007

In 2006, Nikki chaired and coordinated the NSW Voice Interest Group (VIG) of which she was a member from 2001 until 2007. She was also a member of the Tracheostomy Discussion and Evidence Based Practice Group from 2004 until 2007, and chaired the group in 2006. She was intricately involved in the development and establishment of the multi-disciplinary tracheostomy team at Concord Hospital.

2009-2010

In 2009, Nikki started working in Private Practice focussing on Voice, Swallow and breathing clients at Sydney Sinus and Allergy Centre, and in 2010 at Sydney Voice and Swallowing.
